IBM 3172-390 ICP Controller
Third generation IBM 3172 Interconnect Controllers.
The IBM 3172-003 controller. Choose one or two 370 channel interfaces for uplink communication to the mainframe and up to four lan interfaces (Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, ATM) for downlink communication to the LAN. The base unit ships standard with a 486 25Mhz processor and 8 MB of memory which can be upgraded to 64 MB. Lan adapters can be ordered in any combination. The IBM 3172-390 is a specialized multi-network communication style controller. The 3172-390's primary function is similar to a router which manages WAN connectivity.
