IBM 8242 Ethernet Hubs IBM 8242 Ethernet Desktop Hub. The IBM 8242 Ethernet Desktop replaces the previous IBM 8222 Ethernet family of products. This new family of unmanaged IBM Ethernet hub come smaller and with more functionalities such as jabber control, auto-partitioning and auto-reconfiguring which were not available in the previous IBM 8222 family of Ethernet products. Both models in the IBM 8242 family are unmanaged. The IBM 8242-008 provides eight 10Base-T Ethernet ports while the IBM 8242-016 provides sixteen 10Base-T Ethernet ports.
